About Erma Bombeck
Erma Bombeck was a famous American writer who gained national fame for her humorous columns which appeared in a number of newspapers in the United States. She started her writing career during her days in high school with the school’s newspaper called The Owl.
In 1964, she was hired by Kettering-Oakwood Times where she earned $3 for each of her columns. She rose to fame three years later after Doubleday, a publication company, issued a compilation of her columns which they titled "At Wit's End". Her columns appeared in many publications including the Reader's Digest, Teen magazine and Good Housekeeping.
Aside from her columns, the American published a number of interesting books. Some of her works were titled “Just Wait Until You Have Children of Your Own” and “A Marriage Made in Heaven ... or Too Tired for an Affair”.
Family
Her parents were Cassius Edwin Fiste and Erma Haines. She had a step-sister called Thelma. She was married to Bill Bombeck. She had two biological sons called Andrew and Matthew alongside an adopted child named Betsy.
Education
She graduated from Emerson Junior High School before joining Ohio University.
Accolades
She received the American Academy of Achievement’s Golden Plate Award in 1978. Two years later, she was elected into the famous Ohio Women's Hall of Fame. She became a member of the prestigious Arizona Women's Hall of Fame in 2018.
