About Ernest Rutherford
Ernest Rutherford was a New Zealand-British physicist.
His Highlights/Legacy
He is regarded as the father of nuclear physics and also the greatest experimentalist of all time. He won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1908. In 1911, he pioneered the Rutherford model of the atom and he is responsible for splitting the atom in 1917 in a nuclear reaction between nitrogen and alpha particles. There, he discovered the proton, too. The element rutherfordium was named after him in 1997. He still remains the first Oceanian Nobel Prize winner.
