About Ernesto Lecuona
World-famous pianist and composer Ernesto Lecuona was only five years old when he started taking piano lessons. A few years later, it became evident that he was a child prodigy as he composed his first piece at 11 years old. In 1916, while still in his early twenties, he held a performance outside of Cuba for the first time. He composed more than six hundred pieces. Outside of his piano recitals, he is also known for having composed scores for films such as “Carnival in Costa Rica”, “The Cuban Love Song”, “One More Tomorrow” and “Always in My Heart”. “Malaguena” is one of his best-known songs.
Family Life
He was the brother of Cuban pianist, music educator and composer Ernestina Lecuona. He was born to a Cuban mother and a Canarian father. Singer and composer Margarita Lecuona was his cousin.
Achievements
He is an inductee of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Death
He died on November 29, 1963 from a heart attack.
