About Ernesto Sabato
Ernesto Sabato was considered as one of the most influential Latin America writers during the late 20th Century. He worked as a scientist before his maiden literary work was published in the Teseo magazine. Sabato went on to contribute to other renowned publications such as La Nación, and Sur.
His maiden book titled “Uno y el Universo (One and the Universe)” was published in 1945. By the end of 1974, the Argentine writer had published three novels including “El túnel” and “Abaddón el exterminador”.
Family
His parents were Giovanna Maria Ferrari and Francesco Sabato, and he grew up alongside ten siblings. The writer was married to Matilde Kusminsky Richter, and had two children named Mario Sabato and Jorge Federico Sabato. The former is a popular filmmaker.
Education
Sabato was a product of Universidad Nacional de La Plata’s School of Physics and Mathematics.
Prizes
His works earned him many accolades including the Miguel de Cervantes Prize, the Jerusalem Prize, and the Legion of Honour.
Trivia
He was named as the president of the CONADEP Commission in 1983.
