About Ernst Cassirer
German philosopher, writer, and educator Ernst Cassirer is best known for developing the theory of symbolism and being one of the pioneers for 20th-century philosophical idealism.
Background
Cassirer attended the University of Marburg, where he studied literature and philosophy and later the University of Berlin to earn his habilitation, which qualified him to become a full professor. He spent several years teaching in other universities outside of Germany, including the University of Oxford, Gothenburg University, Yale University, and Columbia, where he taught until his death in 1945.
Literary Works
During his lifetime, Cassirer published several literary and philosophical works, drawing most of his inspiration from the Kantian school of thought.
