About Eugène Delacroix
Eugène Delacroix was a seasoned French Romantic painter and lithographer regarded by many to be the most important French painter of the Romantic period. Some of his most notable paintings include 1827's The Death of Sardanapalus and 1830's Liberty Leading the People.
Family Life
He grew up with his parents Victoire and Charles-Francois Delacroix, who was likely not his real father since he was believed to be infertile. Many suspected he was the son of French diplomat Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord.
Trivia
He became an orphan at the age of 16.
Throughout his life, he never got married or had children. The closest known female companion that he had was his housekeeper Jeanne-Marie le Guillou, who was extremely devoted to him.
