About Ève Curie
She was an author and journalist famed for writing the best-selling biography of her mother, famous French scientist Marie Curie. The Paris-born writer also served as a special adviser to British general Hastings Lionel Ismay, the first Secretary General of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).
Education & Early Works
Born to scientist parents and Nobel Prize winners, Pierre and Marie Curie, Ève pursued a bachelor’s program in science and philosophy at the Collège Sévigné in 1925.
She chronicled a biography of her mother after she had died of leukaemia. The book became such a great success that it was adapted into a Hollywood film which was directed by American filmmaker Mervyn LeRoy and starred featured actress Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon.
International Journalism
Her journalism career was launched in the aftermath of WWII when the International Herald Tribune employed her as a war correspondent. She travelled to cover stories from such high-risk regions as North Africa and the Middle East. She described her experiences in her 1943 publication “Journey Among Warriors”.
Personal Life and Death
She was married to Henry Labouisse, the former director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). In 1987, her husband died.
Ève Curie died at the ripe age of 102 in 2007.
Recognition
She received a National Book Award in 1937.
