About Everett Warner
Everett Longley Warner, an award-winning impressionist painter and printmaker, used landscapes and other settings as inspiration to create vivid images on his canvas. During both World Wars, he made a significant contribution to US Navy camouflage, a tactic of military misdirection in which a ship is painted in a variety of colors to distort or confound an adversary's ability to see it.
Biography
At the age of 18, he became an art critic for The Evening Star. He studied at the Académie Julian in Paris. He won a silver medal for painting and a bronze medal for printmaking in 1915 at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco.
He painted aerial scenes while flying seaplanes over places like New York City to capture the scenery while in service in World War I (WWI). He became one of the pioneers of aerial perspective in sketching and painting.
Other interesting facts
In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's College of Fine Arts at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, he served for 18 years as an associate professor of painting and design.
He was released from the Navy at the end of World War II (WWII). He stopped teaching and moved to Westmoreland, New Hampshire, with his family.
