About Félix Trinidad
Puerto Rican boxer Félix Trinidad began his professional boxing career at the age of 17 years following his impressive performances at the amateur level. Throughout his career, which lasted close to two decades, he fought in three divisions: middleweight, welterweight, and light middleweight.
In 1993, he won his first world title after defeating American boxer Maurice Blocker to clinch the IBF welterweight belt. He became a global icon six years later when he won the WBC welterweight title after beating Oscar De La Hoya. He unified the titles at the division the following year following his victory over Fernando Vargas.
He also won the WBA and IBF super welterweight championships before announcing his retirement in 2008.
Private Life
He’s the son of former boxer Felix Trinidad Sr., who later became his trainer. He married a lady called Sharon Santiago. His children are named Larysha, Leysha, Alayah and Ashley.
Honors
Trinidad was inducted into the famous International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2014. The Boxing Writers Association of America and Ring magazine voted him as the “Fighter of the Year” in 2000. He has also been named in the magazine’s “100 greatest punchers of all time”.
Trivia
He’s the 10th Puerto Rican boxer to be named into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
The renowned boxer won 42 out of his 45 professional bouts of which 35 came by way of knockouts.
