About Ferdinand II of Aragon
Ferdinand II of Aragon received praise for taking advantage of his marriage to Queen Isabella I of Castile to ensure a dynastically unified Spain. Collectively known as the Catholic Monarchs, he and Isabella jointly reigned as King and Queen of Castile from 1475 until the latter’s death in 1504.
In 1479, he succeeded his father, John II of Aragon as the King of Aragon. He also ruled jointly with Isabella (as the Queen of Aragon). However, his reign over Aragon ended with his death in 1516.
Family Life
His mother, Juana Enriquez was the second wife of John II Aragon. Two years after Isabella’s death, he married Germaine of Foix, who was King Louis XII of France’s niece. He had seven children from his marriage to Isabella. The only child he had with Germaine died a few hours after birth.
Death
He died in Madrigalejo, Kingdom of Castile and Leon on January 23, 1516.
