Personal Life
The talented football star was named Fernando Manuel Fernandes da Costa Santos at birth. He studied at Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa where he majored in electrical and telecommunications engineering for which he received a degree.
Playing Career
He started his football career with Operário Lisboa in 1970 and was with them for just about a year before moving on to play for Benfica. In 1973 when he left them, he was signed by Estoril. With this team, he played for about six years before Marítimo got him on their side but that was for a short time. He went back to Estoril and stayed with them for about six years then retired from playing.
Coaching Career
In the same year he retired, he became the assistant coach for his team Estoril and within a year, he had proved himself and became the main coach for the team for about six years. From there, he went to Estrela Amadora for four years then Porto for about three years. When he left them, AEK Athens contracted him for just about a year.
In 2010, he began coaching the Greece National team before coaching the Portugal team beginning in 2014.
