Early Life & Education
Born in Istanbul, Turkey, Özpetek read Cinema History at the Sapienza University of Rome. He also pursued directorial studies at the Silvio D'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Art.
Career Facts
The first film he directed was “Hamam,” an Italian-Turkish-Spanish project which was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in May 1997. He directed “Harem Suare,” two years later and “The Ignorant Fairies" in 2001.
His 2007 production, “Saturn in Opposition,” featured top notchers such as Pierfrancesco Favino and Isabella Ferrari. In 2011, he directed the opera, “La traviata" at San Carlo Opera House.
Accolades
“Facing Windows" won a David di Donatello Award for “Best Film”. That work was also announced as the “Best Feature” at the RBIFF.
Trivia
He produced the 2018 drama film “Cebimdeki Yabancı.”
