About Fiorello La Guardia
Mostly described as one of America’s greatest mayors, Fiorello La Guardia started his political journey in 1901 when he worked in the United States’ offices in Budapest, Hungary. He worked in other state institutions before earning his law certificate in 1910. He started his practice later that year after he was called to the bar.
In 1923, he was elected into the United States House of Representatives on behalf of the people of New York. After his ten-year tenure, he was appointed the Mayor of the city in 1934. His charisma and energy won him lots of admirers even from his political opponents.
Family
He was born to Achille La Guardia and Irene Luzzatto Coen. He was married to Thea Almerigotti until her death in 1921. Eight years later, he exchanged marriage vows with Marie Fisher. He had a daughter called Fioretta Thea La Guardia and two adopted children, Jean Marie, and Eric Henry.
Education
After his education at Dwight School, he studied at New York University. He later attended New York University School of Law.
Trivia
He was a member of the Republican Party.
He was also known for ending the influence of the Tammany Hall political organization.
