About Florence Knoll
Florence Knoll was an American interior designer, architect, furniture designer and entrepreneur. She received credit for changing the face of office interior design by adopting the open office styles and filling them with modernist furniture. Together with her husband, Hans Knoll, she established the furniture and interior design company, Knoll Associates.
Family Life
She was the daughter of Mina Matilda Haist (who died when she was 12) and Frederick Emanuel Schust (who passed away when she was 5). After Mina’s death, she was put under the guardianship of Emile Tessin. She was married to Hans Knoll from 1946 until his death in an accident in 1955. Three years later, she married Harry Hood Bassett.
Achievements
She was a recipient of the National Medal of Arts, the Good Design Award, the Gold Medal for Industrial Design and the International Design Award.
