About Florence Ryerson
Best known as the co-writer for the 1939 musical fantasy “The Wizard of Oz,” Ryerson was an American playwright, screenwriter and short story writer.
Ryerson did some stage acting before getting a job as a short story writer for magazines. Some of her works were featured in The American Magazine, Ladies’ Home Journal and others. Between 1915 and 1927, she published over 30 short stories.
She was hired by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1926 and worked on crafting scripts for a number of silent films, including the Fu Manchu. Her most famous work was “the Wizard of Oz,” co-written with Edgar Allan Woolf and Noel Langley.

She attended the “47 Workshop” by the English professor George Pierce Baler at Harvard University.
Books
Ryerson's talent spilled over to writing novels. Together with her husband, Colin Clements, she authored “This Awful Age” and “Mild Oats.”
Personal Life
After her divorce from Harold Swayne Ryerson in 1927, she married writer Colin Clements. She was a mother of one.
