A pioneer of science fiction fandom and an author of several books of varying genres, Ackerman was a key writer and editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine.
Education and Personal Life
Ackerman studied, without graduating, at the University of California for a year after which he served in the U.S Army for three years. He was married to Matilda Wahrman till her death and had no child with her.
His Highlights
He starred in over 200 sci-fi and monster-themed films such as “The Aftermath” and also kept massive collections of arts memorabilia in his home museum called “Son of Ackermansion”.
Ackerman was an ardent member of the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society and the National Fantasy Fan Federation.
Honors
Among his numerous awards are three Hugo Awards, a Saturn and Bram Stoker awards. He was inducted into the Horror and Monster Kid Halls of Fame.
