About Francesco Toldo
Francesco Toldo signed his first professional contract in 1990 with Milan. The Italian goalkeeper spent a number of years on loan at Hellas Verona, and Trento before establishing himself as one of the country’s most exciting players at Fiorentina, which he joined in 1993. With the club, he won two Coppa Italia titles and a Supercoppa Italiana.
After eight seasons with the Florence-based team, Toldo secured a move to Inter Milan in the Serie A. He spent nine seasons with the Nerazzurris where he won five league trophies and three Coppa Italia titles. He was also part of the Inter Milan squad that won the UEFA Champions League in 2010.
International Career
The goalkeeper starred at the U21 level before he was promoted to the senior side in 1995. He helped his country to the finals of the UEFA European Championship in 2000. He also participated in two FIFA World Cup tournaments where he was mostly used as a back up to Gianluigi Buffon.
Major Individual Awards
In 2000, he was named Serie A’s “Goalkeeper of the Year”. That same year, he received the Cavaliere Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana medal. After the 2001/02 soccer season, he was selected into the ESM Team of the Year.
He has also been inducted into both the ACF Fiorentina Hall of Fame, and the Inter Milan Hall of Fame.
