About Francis I of France
Francis I of France is best remembered for being the King of France. He succeeded Louis XII in 1515 and ruled as King of France from that time until his death in 1547. His reign saw the beginning of the French Renaissance.
He was born to Louise of Savoy and Charles, Count of Angoulême. In 1514, he and his second cousin Claude of France got married. Claude bore him seven children, including Henry II, who succeeded him as King of France. After Claude’s death in 1524, he got married to Eleanor of Austria. He and Eleanor had no children.
He was nicknamed "Francis of the Big Nose" because of his long nose.
