About François Boucher
François Boucher was arguably the most popular and celebrated painter in the 18th Century. Known for his eye-catching pastoral scenes, the French painter produced many paintings with the most popular ones titled “Vulcan Presenting Venus with Arms for Aeneas” and “Diana Leaving the Bath”. He has been credited for promoting the famous Rococo style.
Family
His father Nicolas Boucher was also a painter. In 1733, he became the husband of Marie-Jeanne Buzeau with whom he had three kids.
Education
He was trained at the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture.
Achievements
Boucher was adjudged the winner of the 1720 edition of the Grand Prix de Rome.
Trivia
He apprenticed under François Lemoyne and went on to work for Jean-François Cars, a famous engraver.
Some of his works have been showcased at centers like the Honolulu Museum of Art and Sweden’s National museum.
