About Frank Robinson
Frank Robinson was an American professional baseball player and manager who played in the Major League Baseball (MLB) as an outfielder from 1956 to 1976. He made his MLB debut for the Cincinnati Redlegs (later Reds). He also played for the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, California Angels and Cleveland Indians.
While still a player for the Indians, he was appointed as a player-manager in 1975, making him the first black manager in the history of a major baseball league. He also coached or managed seven more MLB teams.
Family Life
He was the last of the ten children of Ruth Shaw and Frank Robinson, who divorced in his infancy. He was raised by his mother. He married Barbara Ann Cole, a real estate broker in 1961. She bore him two children.
Achievements
He is an inductee of the Baseball Hall of Fame as well as the Halls of Fame of the Reds, Orioles and Indians. He remains the only winner of both the American League and National League MVP awards.
Death
He died on February 7, 2019 from bone cancer.
