About Frank Serpico
Frank Serpico is a retired Italian-American NYPD officer who became famous after exposing massive corruption in the NYPD between the 1960s and the early parts of the 1970s. His exposure of corruption in the force led Mayor John V. Lindsay to set up the famous Knapp Commission to investigate the activities of the NYPD. He gained more recognition after his life was dramatized in the 1973 biographical film Serpico, which starred iconic actor Al Pacino.
Personal Life
He was married and divorced three times before his marriage to Marianne in 1973. The marriage ended with Marianne's death in 1980. He has a son named Alexander.
Trivia
He was shot in the face during a drug raid in 1971. The police officers who had accompanied him during the raid ignored him as he bled profusely on the floor fighting for his life. His life was saved by a civilian who quickly called for help.
