About Franz Werfel
He is a playwright, novelist and poet of Austrian-Bohemian background whose work was very popular during the years of the First World War and the Second World War. Franz Werfel particularly gained attention for his book “The Forty Days of Musa Dagh”.
Personal Life
His father Rudolf Werfel was a rich business man who produced leather products. When he was born, he was given the name Franz Viktor Werfel. His mother was Albine Kussi and he had two sisters. He belonged to a Jewish family and was interested in writing since he was really young.
In his early twenties, Werfel worked on his first novel titled “Der Weltfreund”. During the First World War, he decided to become part of the Austro-Hungarian Army. His work was as a telephone operator so he was exposed to a lot of stuff regarding the war. This helped him become good at writing.
Career
In 1920, he worked on “Mirror-Man: A Magic Trilogy” then in 1924, he released “Verdi: Novel of the Opera”. He put together “Hearken Unto the Voice, or Listen to the Voice, or Jeremiah” among others
Cause of Death
In 1945, he suffered from heart failure and passed away.
