Freddy was an American musical powerhouse whose talent with regards to country music, rock and roll and other genres of music drew attention to himself.
Personal Life
When he was born, he was given the name Baldemar Garza Huerta and was the son of Serapio Huerta and Margarita Garza. He was just a little boy when he started singing. His parents tried to get him educated but he gave up on school as a teen and joined the Marines. There he started getting addicted to alcohol and got discharged. When he returned home, he started playing music at different places including night clubs and bars.
Career
His musical breakthrough started in 1974 when he released the album “Before the Next Teardrop Falls”. He also released “Are You Ready for Freddy?”. Most of his tracks were great and topped billboard charts.
Trivia
He decided to officially change his name to Freddy Fender in 1958 because he was sure his name would be better in marketing his music. In 2001, there were reports that he had passed away but he mocked them because even though he was not well, he was alive.
Death
In 2006, due to complications resulting from the cancer that had attacked his lungs, he died fighting for his life.
