About Garry Shandling
Garry Shandling was an American actor, comedian, producer, director and writer. He made his debut in the film and television industry as a scriptwriter for television sitcoms such as “Sanford and Son” and “Welcome Back, Kotter” in the mid-1970s. He launched his stand-up comedy career in 1978 and performed several times on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson”. He was best known for starring in the television sitcoms “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show” and “The Larry Sanders Show”, both of which he co-created.
Parents, siblings, and relationships
He was the younger of the two sons of pet store proprietor Muriel Estelle Singer and her print shop owner husband, Irving Shandling. When he was 10 years old, his brother, Barry died of cystic fibrosis. He was in a long-term relationship with actress Linda Doucett, which ended in 1994.
Achievements
He received a Primetime Emmy Award, British Comedy Awards, American Comedy Awards and twelve CableACE Awards.
Death
He died on March 24, 2016 from pulmonary embolism.
