About Gary Lineker
Gary Lineker is a retired English footballer who became a sports broadcaster when he retired. He became famous as the highest goal scorer for England in the FIFA World Cup finals with 10 goals.
He began his footballing career in 1978, playing for the English side, Leicester City. He moved to Everton in 1985 and then joined Barcelona FC in Spain a year later.
Lineker also played for Tottenham Hotspur and Nagoya Grampus Eight during his playing days.
Family life
He married Michelle Cockayne in 1986 and divorced in 2006. He got married again in 2009, to an actress named Danielle Lineker.
His first marriage produced four children, George Lineker, Angus Lineker, Harry Lineker and Tobias Lineker.
Achievements
He received the Golden Boot award in the 1986 FIFA World Cup for being the tournament’s top goal scorer.
He won several awards, among them, is the FIFA World Player of the Year Bronze award in 1991. He was also the runner up for the Ballon d'Or in 1986.
In 2003, he was inducted into the English football hall of fame.
Trivia
Lineker is an activist for the learning of foreign languages. During his time at FC Barcelona, he was able to learn how to speak Spanish.
He became one of the very few players to never receive a yellow or red card during his career.
