About Gene Fairbanks
Ex-rugby pro Gene Fairbanks was a dominant inside center with outstanding defensive abilities who made a name for himself by making the transition from some of the top super league rugby sides, like ACT Brumbies, to a Wallaby shirt during his playing days.
Biography
He attended St Mary's Goondiwindi Primary School and Downlands College. He played for the Australian U19s in 2001 before joining Queensland for the 2002 Super Rugby season. A year later, he made his Queensland Reds debut before earning a position in the Australian U21 team for the IRB Junior World Championships.
He joined the Brumbies in time for the 2005 campaign, earning eight outings in total. He participated in eleven matches for the Brumbies in 2006, and as a result, he was chosen for the 2006 Wallabies team.
He left the Brumbies in 2009 after being offered a lucrative deal to play for Honda in Japan. After joining the Western Force in 2011, he missed the 2012 competition due to a collapsed disc in his lower back.
He returned to Japan for a second stint with Kintetsu Liners before retiring at the end of the 2014/15 season.
