Originally from New York, he studied at the Professional Children’s School in New York, while partaking in such productions as “Rip Van Winkle.”
Career Highlights
At age 17, he picked up his first Broadway role in “The Cradle Snatchers.” He broke through the film genre with the character of Dick Gary in 1931’s “Personal Maid.” This was the forerunner to other classics such as “If I had a Million,” “Brief Moment" and “Sadie McKee.” He has co-starred alongside talents such as Joan Crawford, Franchot Tone and Esther Ralston.
Personal Life
The actor married Nelson Bentley Hees in 1974. Prior to that he was married to Jeanette MacDonald.
