About George Halas
eorge was an American sportsman who dominated the football field and was popularly known as “Mr Everything”.
Personal Life
His parents were from Hungary. His father was Frank Halas who worked as a tailor and his mother was Barbara who managed a grocery store. He was interested in sports and studied in Crane High School before getting into University of Illinois where he played football, baseball and basketball. In 1922, he and Wilhelmina Minnie Bushing became husband and wife until 1966 when she passed on.
Career
He became a player for the team of Western Electric Company. Being a member of the team wasn’t an easy task for him as most of the players were bigger than him causing him to get hurt a few times. In 1919, he played for the New York Yankees. He later worked as a coach for the Staley Starch Works team on a part time basis.
Trivia
At a young age, he wanted to be on the SS Eastland but was late to be on the ship. The ship however capsized during that time and cost the lives of almost eight hundred and fifty people.
Death
In 1983, he died from complications associated with pancreatic cancer.
