About George MacDonald
George was a well-known Scottish minister of the church whose literary works drew more attention to him through his poems and writings.
Personal Life
He was the son of a farmer and came from a family where a greater percentage of them were well educated. His parents were readers and very intelligent. He was not very healthy as a young boy though. He spent a lot of time battling with different ailments including Tuberculosis and asthma. Even though most of his family were Christians, they belonged to different sects of Christianity. Some were Catholics while others were Presbyterian among others. He studied in the University of Aberdeen and graduated with a physics and chemistry master’s degree. In 1851, he made Louisa Powell his wife and together, they had eleven children even though he lost a few of them mostly to tuberculosis.
Career
He put together his first novel in 1863 titled “David Elginbrod”. He released a few more novels titled “The Princess and The Goblin”, “The Light Princess” and “At the Back of the North Wind” among others.
Death
He spent a lot of time in warm places because he fell ill a lot of times. In his old age, he suffered a stroke for a few years and passed away in 1905.
