About George Mallory
George Mallory was a celebrated English mountaineer who became a national hero after participating in Britain's first three expeditions to the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest. He disappeared along with his climbing partner Andrew Irvine during the 1924 British Everest Expedition. His body was discovered in 1999. His climbing partner’s body still remains unfound.
Family Life
He was the son of Annie Beridge and Herbert Leigh Mallory. He grew up with three siblings, including Trafford Leigh-Mallory. In 1914, he got married to Ruth Turner, with whom he had a son and two daughters.
Trivia
He and Irvine were last sighted about 245 meters from the summit of Everest.
Prior to his mountaineering career, he worked as a teacher.
It is still unknown whether he and Irvine ever made it to the summit of Mount Everest or not.
