About George Mason
George Mason was a renowned American politician who was crucial in the preparation of the United States Bill of Rights, and considered the father of the bill. In 1786, he represented Fairfax County at the Virginia House of Delegates. Before that, he represented the county at the Virginia House of Burgesses. In 1788, he joined the Virginia Ratification Convention as a rep for Stafford County.
He would be remembered for his contributions to the 1774 Fairfax Resolves, and the Virginia Declaration of Rights which was prepared in 1776. Mason was widely considered as one of the founders of the United States.
Family
He was a descendant of the Mason family which had a special place in the history of the United States. His dad, George Mason III, was a politician who served in the Virginia General Assembly. His mother was called Ann Stevens Thomson. He had a brother called Thomson Mason who was a renowned lawyer.
Between 1750 and 1773, he was married to Ann Eilbeck and together they raised 12 kids including George Mason V, William Mason, and Thomson Mason. He was later married to Sarah Brent after the death of his first wife.
