George V, born George Frederick Ernest Albert, served as the ruler of the United Kingdom between 1910 and 1936. Before taking over the position, he was the Prince of Wales.
Under his reign as the King, he promoted communism and socialism. It was under his leadership that some memorable events like the fight for the independence of India, as well as Irish republicanism.
Family
He was a grandson of Queen Victoria and the son of Edward VII. His mother was called Alexandra, Princess of Wales. He had an elder brother called Prince Albert Victor. In 1893, he married Mary of Teck, and together they raised six kids including George VI, Edward VIII, and Prince George, Duke of Kent.
Honors
He was decorated with many laurels such as the Royal Knight of the Garter, Order of St. Andrew (Russian Empire), and Knight Grand Commander of the Star of India.
Trivia
He was a member of the Royal Navy between 1877 and 1892.
