About Gerhart Hauptmann
He was a dramatist and novelist of German background who is believed to be one of the most important enhancers of literary naturalism. He is also known to have earned a Nobel Prize in Literature in 1912.
Personal Life
At birth, he was named Gerhart Johann Robert Hauptmann by his parents Marie Hauptmann and Robert Hauptmann. He had a brother by name Carl Hauptmann and when it was time for him to go to school, he was enrolled in a school in his locality. He continued his education at Realschule but not long after, he gave up on school and decided to go into farming beginning with his uncle’s farm.
Career
He worked on different novels including “Der Narr in Christo Emanuel Quint”, “Wanda a.k.a Der Dämon”, “Im Wirbel der Berufung” and “Das Abenteuer meiner Jugend”. He also worked on plays like “The Assumption of Hannele”, “The Sunken Bell”, “The Maidens of the Mount”, “The White Savior or Montezuma” and “The Bow of Odysseus”.
Death
In 1946, he suffered from Bronchitis and it claimed his life in June of the same year.
