About Gianfranco Ravasi
Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi had initially decided on a Greek and Latin classics teaching career before he made up his mind to become a priest. He was ordained as a priest in 1966. In the summers following his ordination, he did field architectural work in countries such as Jordan, Syria and Turkey. He also taught Old Testament exegesis at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy, Milan before he served as the head of the Ambrosian Library, Milan from 1989 to 2007. He became an ordained Cardinal in 2010.
Family Life
He is the first of the three children of an anti-fascist tax official and his schoolteacher wife.
Achievements
The Duke of Calabria, Infante Carlos made him a member of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George in 2006.
Trivia
He participated in the 2013 papal conclave which saw to the election of Pope Francis.
