Early Life
Gil lived his early life in Brazil and was born to Jose Gil Moreira and Claudina Passos Gil Moreira. The singer enrolled in the Marist Brothers School and later attended music school to nurture his talents.
Career
Gil released his debut album titled “Louvação” in 1967. This record consisted of popular songs such as, "Lunik 9" and "Viramundo". He later went on to create a collaboration album called "Tropicália: ou Panis et Circencis", which consisted of stars such as Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa and Os Mutantes.
Gil also produced other popular records such as "Realce" in 1979, "As Canções de Eu Tu Eles" in 2005, and "Gil Luminoso" in 2006. The entertainer also ventured into the political scene from 1988 to 1990. In 2003, he was appointed by then-Brazilian president Lula da Silva to serve as the head of the Ministry of Culture.
Personal Life
Gil first married Belina Gil from 1965 to 1967 but divorced and remarried Nana Caymmi from 1967 to 1968. The singer then went on to wed Sandra Gadelha from 1969 to 1980 but divorced and remarried Flora Gil in 1988. Gil has a total of 8 children.
