Gioachino Rossini was an Italian composer regarded as the world's most popular opera composer in history during his active years. His notable operas include The Barber of Seville (Il barbiere di Siviglia), La Cenerentola, Il Signor Bruschino and Moïse et Pharaon. He was nicknamed "The Italian Mozart".
Family Life
He was the son of singer Anna and trumpeter Giuseppe. He married opera singer Isabella Colbran in 1822. After the death of Isabella in 1845, he married Olympe Pélissier in 1846. He remained married to Olympe until his death in 1868. Neither of his marriages produced children.
Trivia
He correctly predicted that The Barber of Seville would remain popular years after his death. And today, over two hundred years after he wrote the opera, it remains a popular work.
