About Giorgos Karagounis
Giorgos Karagounis started his professional soccer career at the age of 19 as a player for Panathinaikos, but made his debut with Apollon Smyrni during his loan spell with the club. He returned to his parent club in 1998 and helped the team in many competitions including the UEFA Champions League.
After a series of eye-catching performances, the Greek midfielder was signed by Italian club Inter Milan in 2003. During his two years stint with the team, he won the Coppa Italia in 2005. He has also played for some top teams like Benfica, and Fulham.
International career
Karagounis earned his first senior team call-up in 1999 and made his debut that same year. The highly-rated soccer star went on to make 139 appearances for the team, scoring ten goals. He was a member of the Greek team that won the UEFA European Championship in 2004.
