About Giuseppe Saragat
Giuseppe Saragat was a member of the Italian Socialist Party (PSI) since 1930, after the Unitary Socialist Party was dissolved. In 1946, he was appointed as the President of the Constituent Assembly. The following year, he left the PSI and established the Socialist Party of Italian Workers. He was named Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister in 1947 and served for three years. He returned to the position in 1954.
Between 1963 and 1964 under the Aldo Moro-led administration, Saragat served as the country’s Foreign Affairs Minister. Soon after leaving this post, the Italian politician was sworn-in as the President of the country.
Personal Life
His parents were from Sardinia. Unfortunately in 1961, the politician lost his wife, Giuseppina Bollani.
Education
Saragat was a product of the University of Turin.
