About Goran Dragić
Dubbed “the Dragon,” Goran Dragic is one of Slovenia’s greatest basketball players in history. Dragic has enjoyed a successful club career in Spain, Slovenia, and America (NBA). He often plays as a shooting guard and point guard.
Background & Early Career
He was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia. In 2003 and at age 17, he debuted for “KD Ilirija” in Slovenia’s minor basketball league. His play caught the attention of “Slovan” in the top-ranked league, and they signed him in 2004.
Club Career
In 2006, he moved from his native and was transferred to the Spanish basketball club, “Saski Baskonia,” in the Spanish ACB League. However, upon his arrival, he was quickly loaned to “Murcia,” where he played the entire 2006-2007 season.
In 2007, he moved back to his native after joining “Union Olimpija.” He was part of the 2007-08 team, which won the Slovenian Basketball League Championship in 2008.
Between 2008 and 2022, he had starred in the NBA for 16 seasons; thus, he played for the Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, and Toronto Raptors. He was honored as NBA’s most improved player in 2014 and was an NBA All-Star in 2018.
International Career
In 2017, he led Slovenia to their first “FIBA EuroBasket” trophy. In addition, he was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
