About Gordon W. Prange
Gordon W. Prange was a celebrated university professor who gained fame for his numerous historical books. Between 1937 and 1980, he worked with the University of Maryland as a History Professor.
As a writer
He was best known for his 1981 bestselling book titled “At Dawn We Slept: The Untold Story of Pearl Harbor”. Some of his other well-known literature were titled “Pearl Harbor: The Verdict of History” and “Target Tokyo: The Story of the Sorge Spy Ring”.
He started making a name for himself in 1963 when his “Tora! Tora! Tora!” scripts were featured in the Reader's Digest magazine. The write-ups were later adapted into a movie in 1970.
Family
His parents were simply referred to as Johanna and Al, and grew up alongside a brother named Russell. He tied the knot with Anne Root in 1937 and they were blessed with three kids.
Education
He had his education at the University of Iowa in 1928. He later became a student of the University of Berlin.
Facts
Prange participated in the Second World War as a member of the U.S. Navy.
A park in Pomeroy has been named in his honor.
