Graham Greene was a noted English novelist remembered for such famous novels as 1929's The Man Within, 1940's The Power and the Glory, 1943's The Ministry of Fear and 1951's The End of the Affair. He is considered by many to be one of the finest writers of the 20th century.
He was born to Marion and Charles Henry Greene. He grew up with five siblings, including the renowned mountaineer and physician Raymond Greene. He married Vivien Dayrell-Browning in 1927 and had two children with her.
In his lifetime, he received numerous literary awards for his works, including the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1948 and the Shakespeare Prize in 1968.
In 1967, he was shortlisted for the Nobel Prize for Literature.
As a teenager, he suffered intensely from depression that he attempted committing suicide multiple times.
