About Gregor Strasser
Gregor Strasser became a member of the Adolf Hitler-led Nazi Party in 1922, after spending a number of years in the army. Two years later, he was voted into the Bavarian Landtag from the Pfaffenhofen constituency.
After serving for some months, Strasser was selected by the people of the Upper Bavaria constituency to represent them in the Reichstag. Between 1926 and 1928, he served as the party’s Reichspropagandaleiter. He also worked as the Reichsorganisationsleiter of the party.
Military Career
Strasser joined the German Imperial Army at the beginning of the First World War. Before 1918, he had risen to the Oberleutnant rank. The following year, he enlisted in the Freikorps, which was then under the command of Franz Ritter von Epp.
Family
He had a brother named Otto Strasser, who was also a politician.
Education
The ex-military personnel attended Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich before moving to Friedrich-Alexander-University in Erlangen-Nuremberg.
Honors
During his time in the military, he received the Iron Cross medal.
Death
He was killed during the infamous “Night of the Long Knives” in 1934. Many historians have speculated that his numerous conflicts with Hitler was the reason for his murder.
Trivia
In 1922, he joined the Völkischer Block political party.
He was imprisoned for his part in the ‘Beer Hall Putsch’ coup d’etat in 1923.
