About Gregory van der Wiel
Dutch soccer star Gregory van der Wiel joined AFC Ajax at the age of seven years. Mostly used as a right back, he joined the club’s senior team in 2007 and played his first professional game later that year. Throughout his five years stint with the club, he won both the Eredivisie, and the KNVB Cup two times.
Due to his excellent performance, he was signed by French side Paris Saint-Germain in 2012. He helped them to win four Ligue 1 titles and two Coupe de France before joining Fenerbahçe in Turkey in 2016. He has gone on to play for other top teams like Cagliari in Italy and MLS side Toronto FC.
International career
He played for the Dutch under-19 and 21 sides before he was selected into the senior team in 2009. With the team, he has played in some major international tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup, and the UEFA Euros.
Family
He spent most of his childhood with his three siblings named Hind, Layla, and Ambar. He has been in a relationship with Rose Bertram, a model. In 2018, the couple had a child called Naleya Rose van der Wiel.
Accolades
At the end of the 2009/10 soccer season, he was named the “Dutch Young Player of the Year”.
Trivia
In 2006, he was named the captain of Ajax’s junior side.
