About Guangxu Emperor
Guangxu Emperor was a member of the House of Aisin Gioro who became the Qing dynasty Emperor in 1875. His tenure lasted until 1908 but at some stage, he was interrupted by Empress Dowager Cixi. He was best known for initiating the Hundred Days' Reform which was aimed at reshaping the country’s cultural, educational and political structures.
He was put under house arrest in 1898 by Empress Dowager Cixi which limited his authority over the dynasty.
Family
He was born Aisin Gioro Zaitian to Yehe Nara Wanzhen and her husband Yixuan, Prince Chunxian of the First Rank. He was married to Empress Xiaodingjing.
Honors
He received many laurels including Belgium’s Grand Cordon of the Order of Leopold and the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Chrysanthemum from the Empire of Japan.
Death
According to historical reports, the Guangxu Emperor was poisoned and it was confirmed by a forensic test in 2008.
