About Gustavo Díaz Ordaz
The former Mexican politician, Gustavo Diaz Ordaz was elected as the 56th president of Mexico during the 1964 general elections.
Family life and Education
He was the son of Ramon Diaz Ordas Redonet and Sabina Bolanos Cacho de Diaz Ordaz. He was born into a middle-class family. He experienced difficult times while growing up.
Ordaz was educated at the Institute of Arts and Sciences and he graduated with a degree in law from the University of Puebla.
He married his wife “Guadalupe Borja”, with whom he had three children.
Political Career
The politician graduated from the University in 1937 and after his graduation, he taught as a professor in the same school for some time before he began his political career.
He was a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party and he had a smooth start as a politician. Before he became president, he served in the Chamber of Deputies and also served as a senator.
Gustavo Diaz Ordaz was known to be an authoritative president but aside from that, he helped improve the economic condition of Mexicans. He was responsible for the construction of the Mexican Institute of Petroleum and it can be counted as one of the most productive industries in Mexico.
After his tenure of office ended in 1970, he appointed the late Echeverria, who was his secretary of Interior as his successor.

The Licenciado Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport was named in his honor.
Death
The politician died of colorectal cancer.
Trivia
After his rule ended, he was made ambassador to Spain but he resigned a few months later after he was criticized by the media.
