About Guus Hiddink
Guus Hiddink is a retired Dutch soccer star who was usually used at the midfield position. Throughout his career, he played for a number of popular clubs such as NEC Nijmegen, PSV Eindhoven, and De Graafschap. He ended his playing career in 1982.
Coaching career
Hiddink has enjoyed more successes as a coach than as a player. He started his career in 1983 after he was hired as one of the assistant coaches of his former team, PSV Eindhoven. Four years later, he was promoted to the head coach position. By the end of 1990, he had won both the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup three times. He also helped the team to win the European Cup in 1988.
The Dutch soccer legend has gone on to coach other clubs like Chelsea, Real Madrid and Valencia. He has also managed a number of national teams such as the Netherlands, South Korea, Russia and Australia. He has also coached the national team of Curaçao
Honors
Aside from his successes with the teams, he has also received many individual laurels which include the AFC Coach of the Year, World Soccer World Manager of the Year, and the Rinus Michels Award.
Trivia
In 2021, he announced that he was retiring from coaching.
He was fined €45,000 and slapped with a six months suspended jail sentence in 2007 after he was found guilty of tax evasion.
