Guy Clark was an American singer-songwriter who is best known for releasing over 20 folk and country albums. In 2014, he won the Grammy Award for “Best Folk Album” for his album “My Favorite Picture of You”.
Background
Clark was born and raised in Texas. In his adult years, he moved with his wife Susanna to Nashville, Tennessee, which was a growing city for burgeoning country and folk singers. Most of his songs were recorded by several country stars, including Willie Nelson, Steve Earle, Johnny Cash, and Kathy Mattea.
Honors
He won the 2005 Americana Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriter. In 2013, he received the Academy of Country Music’s Poet’s award.
Clark was inducted in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014.
Personal Life and Death
Clark married Susanna in 1972 and they had one son together, Travis Carroll Clark. Susanna passed away from cancer in 2012. Four years later, Clark also passed away after long battle with lymphoma.
