About Guy Fawkes
Guy Fawkes was a Catholic who fought in the 80 Years War for the Spanish Catholics against the Protestant Dutch. He was part of the group that planned the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605.
History
Guy Fawkes was tortured until he revealed the names of his co-conspirators in the plot to blow up Parliament. He eventually revealed their names after enduring days of horrific torture. Fawkes and his co-conspirators were hanged for their plan to kill the King and capture his daughter, Princess Elizabeth.
Legacy
The room Guy was tortured in is known as the “Guy Fawkes Room”. He earned the respect of King James I for his steadfast Catholic beliefs and his unwillingness to give up the names of others involved.
