About Happy Felsch
Happy Felsch was one of the American League’s best hitters before his promising career was curtailed by a match-fixing scandal in 1919 which would be termed as the “Black Sox Scandal”. He joined the Chicago White Sox in 1915 and helped them to win the World Series two years later.
Match-fixing Allegation
Felsch, alongside seven other players of the White Sox, were accused of deciding the results of the World Series championship in 1919. Felsch later admitted that their plan was to help the Cincinnati Reds win the championship in order to receive money from an Arnold Rothstein-led gambling organization.
They were acquitted after a trial, but were banned from participating in professional baseball by then Commissioner of Baseball, Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis.
His Family
He was raised together with eleven other siblings. The baseball star was married to Marie with whom he had three kids.
Facts
His character in the movie titled “Eight Men Out”, which was released in 1988, was played by American actor Charlie Sheen.
After his ban, he toured with a number of amateur teams like the Scobey, Montana Outlaws.
