Harley Race was known for his impressive career in professional wrestling and is widely regarded as one of the greatest in the sport.
During his career he featured for a number of wrestling promotions including the WWE and the WCW. He also starred for the now-defunct American Wrestling Association.
Race also worked as a professional wrestling promoter and trainer.
Family
He was married four times. Vivian Jones was his first wife. She died in a car accident in 1960, a few weeks after they got married. He then married Sandra and had a daughter named Candice Marie with her. Their marriage came to an end in a divorce.
He got married to Evon Race in 1962. They divorced in 1993.
He married Beverly Race two years after he divorced Evon. He and Beverly’s union ended in her death in 2009.
Achievements
He had several titles to his credit. Some of them include the “NWA World Heavyweight Championship”, which he won 8 times. He also won the “WWA World Heavyweight Championship”.
Pro Wrestling Illustrated named him “Wrestler of the Year” in 1979 and 1983 and honored him with the Stanley Weston Award in 2006.
He has been honored by several wrestling halls of fame such as WCW Hall of Fame and the WWE Hall of Fame.
Death
The WWE star died from lung cancer in April 1943.
